Phil was a founding member of Bristol’s first Community radio station – Bristol Community 93.2fm. BCfm started broadcasting in March 2007 where until recently he was the station manager responsible for overall control of the business, station and output.
After gaining a BA (hons) in journalism and media, Phil has worked within both the BBC and Commercial radio sectors and has also worked as a consultant and broadcaster in Swaziland with the Swaziland State Broadcaster, SBIS. He has managed many community radio projects in Bristol and farther afield and has produced some groundbreaking community broadcasts. Phil also produces and hosts a weekly show on BBC Radio Bristol highlighting Community Radio.
Phil is an executive Council member of the Community Media Association and is also a trustee of BCfm ltd. He has been a tutor and lecturer at university and college level for over thirteen years and still delivers accredited radio skills training.
BCfm was the first community radio station in Bristol offering access to air time, direct community involvement, training and the desired community led output of the audience. BCfm gives the city of Bristol the choice and the voice to get involved and make a difference and was voted the Radio Academy’s South West ‘Region’s and Nation’s’ gold winner for 2010.
