Record Number of Entries Received for 2012 Sony Radio Academy Awards
As entries into the 2012 Sony Radio Academy Awards close, The Radio Academy is delighted to announce a record year for entries received across the 34 award categories, covering the wealth of UK radio output from speech and drama through to news, comedy and of course music.
The Sony Radio Academy Awards are widely regarded as the most prestigious awards in the radio industry’s calendar and the only event that brings the entire sector together to celebrate outstanding content and creativity – recognising the very best of the UK radio industry, nationally, regionally and locally. 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of these Awards and the 30th year of Sony’s support.
John Myers, CEO of The Radio Academy and Chairman of the Sony Organising Committee said: “These are the most sought after awards in the radio industry and to have a record number of entries, underlines their importance to the industry. The Radio Academy will be hosting a very special event this year to mark the 30th year of The Sony Radio Academy Awards.”
The judging process will begin later this month and 127 individuals will be participating in this process.
For each category, the Committee appoints a panel of judges varying in size according to the number of entries received - with each judge chosen because of a particular expertise that directly relates to whichever kind of radio they're being asked to assess. Judges are drawn chiefly from the radio industry and balanced across all broadcast sectors.
Full details of the 2012 Judging Panels will be available on the Sony Radio Academy Awards website once the judging is underway.
Nominations will be announced late March/early April – date to be confirmed. Details of the Radio Academy’s special live webcast will be released shortly.
Winners will be revealed at the 2012 Sony Radio Academy Awards Ceremony on Monday 14th May at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
