What the Judges Said
"This was event broadcasting. No one who heard John Humphrys interviewing George Entwistle could be left with any doubt that they had listened to something momentous occurring and, sure enough, the director-general of the BBC stepped down later that same evening. But The Today Programme is so much more than one interview or one presenter. The judges were rocked by the ”hidden hunger” interview with a well-spoken British mother who had not eaten for five days, wooed by Lynne Truss’s eloquent review of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony and won over by sparkling reports from around the globe. In a post-Leveson Inquiry world, The Today Programme reminds us all why freedom of speech and quality journalism are worth fighting for.

What the Judges Said
"Christian O'Connell sounds like he really wants to spend time with his breakfast audience. His engagement is helped by a carefully crafted show which may sound ad-lib, but is obviously the work of a talented team. Neat, original features plus humour, charm & enthusiasm are the mark of the Absolute Breakfast Show - as a result it reaches beyond its target audience. Great use is made of the station's website, with excellent video productions adding value to the radio broadcasts. And, as important as anything, the show's music offers an excellent alternative to standard breakfast contemporary music.

What the Judges Said
"This entry shows Chris Evans as the consummate broadcaster. Fully at ease on air, fully in tune with his audience and fully aware of, and able to harness the power of morning radio to inspire listeners to relish the prospect of another day. The format - apparently effortlessly - moves from one well thought through and executed feature to another with Chris demonstrating as he goes a remarkable ability to think on his feet as he talks to his audience. He also shows a real love for the music played.

BBC Radio 3
What the Judges Said
"This is a joy to listen to. Radio 3 has made considerable changes to its breakfast show turning it into an accessible, warm, and stimulating start the day, in the teeth of opposition from some traditionalists.
No longer is classical music handed out. Now listeners are asked for their suggestions, introduce them, and talk about discoveries and musical passions. Presenters Petroc Trewlawny and Sara Mohr-Pietsch are well matched friendly experts, always encouraging.

What the Judges Said
"Kiss offers a high energy but still disciplined breakfast show, totally in tune with its target audience. Rickie, Melvin and Charlie demonstrate a genuine, warm relationship with their listeners who are made to feel as much a part of the team as the presenters themselves. Their easy manner and true laugh out loud moments set their young audience up perfectly for the day ahead.
